The Spanish all-women ensemble took the stage at the American University in Cairo's Tahrir Campus for two hours, enchanting the audiences attending the festival's opening ceremony. Their performance included a series of songs and dances from the classical flamenco repertoire. Some of the songs were from Las Migas' 2020 album Libres, which garnered the Latin Grammy Award for Best Flamenco Album in 2022. Their 2017 album Vente Conmigo also earned a Latin Grammy Award nomination. The flamenco quartet was formed in Barcelona in 2004 by a group of students of Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC). After a series of successful performances, the group released their debut album Las Reinas del Matute in 2010. In their show at the AUC's Tahrir Campus, the line-up included Marta Robles (flamenco and classical guitar), Alicia Grio (guitar), Laura Patios (violin) and Carolina Fernandez (vocals). Prior to their performance at the She Arts festival, the Spanish Institute in Cairo shared a clip of the quartet singing at the Pyramids of Giza. Magdalena Cruz, cultural and scientific counsellor at the Spanish embassy in Cairo shared her pride at hosting Las Migas in Egypt. She revealed to Ahram Online: "It is an honour for the Embassy of Spain in Cairo to take part in the She Arts Festival on multiple levels. Four women of Las Migas bring unique art to Egyptian audiences, as they fuse flamenco with other music genres such as tango, folk and jazz. The result is a style of their own, which was rewarded with a Latin Grammy." It is worth noting that the second edition of the She Arts festival (2022) featured yet another renowned Spanish artist, Isabel Venadrell. Continuing until 1 October this year, the She Arts festival is dedicated to showcasing the creativity of female artists through a variety of music, theatre plays, film screenings and dances, alongside workshops and seminars.
